New Delhi. In the Indian Premier League 2025, the team of Delhi Capitals, which has been invincible so far, faced the first defeat while playing in their first match. Delhi lost by 12 runs due to three runs out in the last over against Mumbai Indians. During the match, Delhi Capitals crossed the deadline to complete their 20 -overs quota. For this reason, captain Akshar Patel has been fined Rs 12 lakh.
On Sunday night, the BCCI confirmed the sentence in a statement. The statement said, “This (Patel's) team was the first mistake of this season that comes under Article 2.22 of the IPL's code of conduct. Patel was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
Mumbai, batting first, scored a score of 205 for 5 wickets. Akshar started well with two fours but became a victim of Jaspreet Bumrah. He scored 9 runs in 6 balls and Delhi's team was all out for 193 runs in 19 overs.
This match is being discussed due to Karun Nair, who is returning to the IPL by putting runs in domestic cricket. He played a stormy innings of 89 runs on 40 balls. After his dismissal, the team stumbled and the match went out of Delhi. During the batting, Karun Nair had a debate with Mumbai bowler Jaspreet Bumrah.
Akshar told broadchers after the match, “We had a match. I think our middle -order batsmen played some wrong shots. We lost by 12 runs and one over was left, so we could still win. It cannot be that your lower order batsmen should always come and save you in chase,”
