London. Denmark's Christian Ericsson, who was away from the game for seven months due to a heart attack during a match in the European Championship, is now ready to return to competitive football from the English Premier League (EPL) Club Brentford.
Ericsson fell on the ground during the match being played between Denmark and Finland on June 12 last year in Copenhagen. He later said that he had no symptoms of life for five minutes. He was dead.
The Denmark playmaker signed a contract with London's Club Brentford till the session ended in May after recovering from the accident. Earlier, he has played in EPL for Tottenham, after which he joined the Inter Milan Club of Italy.
Brentford's manager Thomas Frank has earlier coached Ericsson while being the coach of Denmark's Under-17 team. He said, “We have connected a world class player to Brentford. He has not practiced with the team for seven months. But he himself prepared well. He is fit but he will need to get the match fit.”
Brentford's Football Director Phil Giles said, “Fans of the club may be sure that we have worked significantly to ensure that Ericsson fits perfectly to return to competitive football.
Ericsson said, “My goal is to play in the World Cup in Qatar. This has always been my mindset. It is a goal, a dream. I will be chosen or not. It is another matter. But to come back. It is my dream. I am sure that I can do physically. Because I will not think physically as a different. I will reach the level of fitness soon.”
