United Nations: India has given the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) very important information on the issue of Afghanistan and Taliban. India has said that it has discussed different issues related to bilateral relations with the Taliban rule. India also said that the relationship between Indian people and Afghan people has always been close. These 'special' relations have been 'Aadhaar' of India's current association with Afghanistan. India's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvatnani Harish gave this information at the United Nations Security Council meeting held at the United Nations Assistance Mission (Unama) in Afghanistan on Monday. Ambassador Harish said that earlier this year, India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt met Afghanistan's acting Foreign Minister Mawalvi Aamir Khan Mutki in Dubai. Harish said, 'Both sides discussed various issues related to regional development along with bilateral relations. The Afghan side appreciated and thanked the Indian leadership for joining and supporting the people of Afghanistan.
He said, “It was decided that India would consider joining development projects in the near future besides the humanitarian aid programs released in Afghanistan.” The meeting between Egyptian and Mottaki in January was the highest level of contact between India and Taliban since the Taliban occupation of Afghanistan in 2021. Harish emphasized that the relationship between India and Afghanistan has been centuries old and has a special relationship between the people of India and Afghanistan as its neighbor who has been 'the basis of our current association with the country'.
India's eye on the situation in Afghanistan
Harish said that India is closely monitoring the situation of Afghanistan and has been actively involved in regional and international efforts to maintain stability and peace in the country. The Indian envoy said, “Our comprehensive view is to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan and to build an international consensus under the United Nations framework to resolve various issues between real authorities and international communities in Afghanistan.” He said that India's participation in the United Nations meetings in Doha, Moscow Format and other forums is 'reflection of our efforts to secure peace, stability and development in Afghanistan'.
What has India given to Afghanistan so far?
India told the United Nations institution that it is working with various UN agencies to provide assistance to the people of Afghanistan in the areas of health, food security, education, sports and efficiency development. India has been committed to reconstruction of Afghanistan since 2001. He said, “Our development partnership includes more than 500 projects spread in all the provinces of Afghanistan.” Since August 2021, India has given 27 tonnes of relief material, 50 thousand tonnes of wheat, 40 thousand liters of pesticides and more than 300 tonnes of medicines and medical equipment.
Rosa Otunbayeva, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary -General for Afghanistan, told the council that it is the responsibility of the real authorities to tell whether they want Afghanistan to be re -included in the international system and if so, are they ready to take necessary steps? After the meeting between Egyptian and Mottaki in January, a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs said that both sides evaluated the Indian humanitarian aid programs. The Afghan minister appreciated and thanked the Indian leadership for joining and supporting the people of Afghanistan.
