New Delhi. If you feel that the effect of Facebook is decreasing, then you are not alone thinking like this. Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has also expressed concern about the cultural effect of this platform. In April 2022, the conversation between Facebook head, Tom Alison and Zuckerberg, had a conversation on internal emails. This email was presented in court this week during the antitrust case against Meta of Federal Trade Commission.
In these emails, Zuckerberg admitted that even though Facebook's user engagement is stable in many areas, its widespread cultural effects are decreasing. Meta also has two more social networking platforms like Instagram and Whatsapp. However, Zuckerberg believes that good performance of these platforms will also not be able to meet Facebook's declining relevance.
Facebook became less attractive
Facebook's popularity was based on the 'Friending' model, but Zuckerberg believes that this model is no longer so attractive due to changing the user's behavior. He admitted that now many people, including themselves, prefer to follow the influencers on Instagram or Twitter. Due to this, Facebook's friend-based model has started to look less attractive than the 'Following' approach of those platforms.
Action plan to increase people's trend
In his email, Zuckerberg proposed several strategies to increase Facebook's relevance. An idea, which he called a “madness filled idea”, included the user's friend graph completely resetting and starting a fresh. He also noted that it is important to focus on creating community through groups of platforms, but it requires further improvement. Although he remains optimistic about community messaging, after several years of focus on the group, he questioned how much progress can be made in this area.
What is Federal Trade Commission's case against META
In the antitrust trial, Zuckerberg has defended the acquisition of his company's Instagram and Whatsapp. U.S. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has accused META that it has tried to suppress competition and maintain its dominance in the social media industry using these acquisitions. This case of FTC can force META to sell Instagram and WhatsApp.
