Karachi: The demand for the release of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) chief Maharang Baloch and other leaders is gaining momentum. In Karachi, BYC protested against 'the state's cruelty and forced disappearance'. Mehrang Baloch led the demonstration of illegal arrest of relatives of those who have forcibly disappeared and protested against illegal police remand. Mehrang Baloch and many other activists have been accused of terrorism. Meanwhile, in police action, several people, including BYC leader Samashi Deen Baloch, were detained on Monday for violating Section 144.
Pakistan Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Syed Asad Raza said, “The police failed the meeting and about six protesters, including Samasi Deen Baluch, were arrested for violating Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and were closed in the police station.” Speaking to the country's leading newspaper 'Don', senior officer of Pakistan Human Rights Commission (HRCP) Qazi Khizar, said that BYC and Civil Society Organizations had called for a 'peaceful' protest against the custody of Mahanrang and others and action against activists in Balochistan.
Women also arrested
According to HRCP leader, “Police adopted a cruel way to deal with the protesters”. He said that 13 women were taken, but the number of men is not known. Khirj himself also participated in the protests. Khirj claimed that many people claiming to represent Pakistan Ulema Council and other groups demonstrated against Baloch workers under police security. He had taken banners and raised slogans against Byc, but the police was not stopping him from violating Section 144.
Despite more than 24 hours of detention of Mehrang Baloch, it was not produced in the court. According to local media reports, protests against his arrest in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan continued, in which the police used tear gas to disperse protesters in some cases.
