New Delhi. Pakistan Cricket Board has emerged as a force in Asian cricket amidst India's dominance in world cricket. Mohsin Naqvi of Pakistan has been elected the new president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). He will replace Shami Silva of Sri Lanka in Asian cricket. Mohsin Naqvi is the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (ACB). Prior to Shami Silva, Jai Shah of India was the president of SCC.
The Asian Cricket Council (SCC) was established in 1983. It has a total of 30 members including 5 full members. Among full members are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The first president of SCC was NKP Salve of India.
Mohsin Naqvi said after being elected president of ACC, 'I feel honored to be elected as the Asian Cricket Council. Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket and I am committed to work with all member boards for the development of this game. We will find new opportunities together. We will promote cooperation and take Asian cricket to new heights. I also thank the outgoing ACC President (Shami Silva) for his contribution to the ACC.
Mohsin Naqvi is the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board since February 2024. Pakistan has successfully hosted the ICC Champions Trophy under his leadership. However, Pakistan's performance in this tournament was not good.
Shami Silva of Sri Lanka said, 'It was a great honor for me to be elected president of the Asian Cricket Council. I tried to pursue this game during my tenure. I also want to thank Jai Shah in this effort, with the help of which it was possible. I hope that the Asian Cricket Council will continue its great journey in Mohsin Naqvi's leadership.
