Panama Canal News: Recent statements of President Trump have once again brought the geopolitical landscape around the Panama Canal to the discussion. The Trump administration has described the control of the US strategic interests and to combat China's growing influence. According to reports, the White House has directed the US Army to plan to increase military attendance in Panama. This step is being described as part of China's widespread strategy to reduce the economic and strategic impact of China, especially in areas which are located around the Panama Canal.
Although the Trump administration has not yet clearly announced its plans, various reports have been said to consider the options ranging from increasing cooperation with the security forces of Panama to establishing military control over the canal.
