New Delhi. Uruguay defeated Italy 1-0 to win the Under 20 World Cup football title for the first time. With this, the process of victory of European teams in the tournament for the last four times was also broken. Luciano Rodrygase scored a winning goal at the header in the 86th minute.
Most of the current 40000 spectators at Diego Maradona Stadium were supporters of Uruguay. FIFA president Jiyani Infantino also came to watch the match.

Before the tournament, both Uruguay and Italy were not among the title contenders but clubs in Brazil, Argentina and England did not leave the players for the tournament. It is not mandatory for the clubs to release the players for international junior tournaments.
Uruguay lost the final in 1997 and 2013. Brazil won the title in 2011 from South America. Earlier, Israel defeated South Korea 3–1 to finish third.
