New Delhi: NASA's new drilling machine is starting a new era on the moon. On seeing this machine, this machine made a deep hole in the surface of the moon. This state -of -the -art equipment of NASA is Lister (Lunar Instrumentation for Subsurface Thermal Explosion with Rapidity). It has been sent to the moon through Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost 1 lander. It has been developed by Texas Tech University and Honeybee Robotics. Blue Ghost Mission is designed to understand the internal temperature and composition of the moon.
So far humans have explored only 5% of the surface of the moon. Under the Artemis mission, NASA is preparing to take it further. It is very important to understand the Moon better, because it will lay the foundation for Mars and other planets in future.
How does NASA's drilling machine work?
The purpose of the lister is to measure the internal temperature of the moon. This machine has a special type of drill, which can dig up to three meters. At a depth of every half meter, this system stops and puts a particular thermal probe into the moon's soil. This will raise two types of information – thermal gradients (changes in temperature with depth) and thermal conductity (the ability to communicate temperature in the soil).
Knowing the temperature, what will we know?

The objective of this project is to make a better understanding of the temperature of the moon and its surface, so that human settlements can be planned in future. This drilling machine will not be limited to the moon alone. If it was successful, a similar excavation will be done on the surface of Mars and other planets in the future.
